I'll probably get hate for this but my dad had a B5 Passat V6, worst car ever. Everything possible to go wrong on a car went wrong. Fortunately I learned on how to work on a car by helping fix his constant problems with it. Probably one of the leakiest cars ever too, seriously wtf is with that?

Yeah, I have to say, while I owned a Wolfsburg Jetta from around that time (2001) and a few other VWs in that era and absolutely loved driving them, they were VERY shit cars from a durability standpoint.

From what I understand they are much better now and considered buying a Golf R at one point. That era of VW was rage inducing to me.

is it like W8 month or something?
you post one, grave robber posted another silver wagon with a stick shift, and someone else posted a BLACK wagon with a stick shift....

If you're tight with a talented VW mechanic, go for it, otherwise prepare to spend silly money keeping the thing running. Even still, what an awesome car.

It's true, they got their shit together around '07ish.
As bad as they were from 98-03, they're still some of my favorite cars in my car history. Especially that Jetta... I have loads of empirical data to say that many of my subsequent cars have been faster in every conceivable way, but somehow it felt like I was driving something very special.

I've wanted a B5 S4 bad for quite a while now actually I like the car a lot but I just don't think I have the ability and time for one.

Yeah, I could replace that Jetta for a pittance $5K would get me one in decent shape, just to have as a toy. But having seen all the issues it had brand-spanking-new, I can't imagine owning one now. I just imagine it'd be this giant boil on my soul every time I pulled up to my house and saw it just sitting there, broken.

The only W8 Wagon id buy (And it is on my dream car bucket list) would be a black manual that would be immaculate. Anything remotely modified or "abused" is a nono in my book with this type of car.

It even warns you that you'll be doing a lot of W8ing at the shop.

find a v8 one that's a manual. The 4.2l is fairly reliable . less tuning capability for more reliability

A coworker bought one of those and it seems good so far.

What is it ... 8 ball joints in the front on each wheel? Three grand easy.

It was me.

I'd prefer not to spend silly money, and the nearest VW dealer or specialist mechanic is an hour away. :(

But that sick K&N intake, catback, and cut springs make the car faster, brah!

We have invented better steering, by adding 37 new ball joints. Enjoy!

Odd, I had a B5.5 V6 Passat and it was quite a good car...but I hear such things often, with VW you seem to either get a good one or a shitty one, and nothing in between.

At this point, I just want originality. Braeh.

Man originality is so boring, yo, you gotta have like, no wheel gap at all, if you wanna be in the coolz.
